Solder the white and green wires to pin 9 and and black wire to pin 5. Safety glasses on, tin the wires by melting a small amount of solder onto them, then trim so there's about 2-3mm of exposed wire left. Instead of getting an expensive scan tool some of our single car make or multi car make scan tools like the Vident Scan Tools and FOXWELL scan tools offer a great. when it comes to 8192, FT232R products are where its at. Buy ALDL or OBD1 Diagnostics Scan Tool If your car is not OBDII compatible it is still possible to diagnose some ALDL or OBD1 compatible cars with an affordable diagnostic scan tool.

since it uses the FT232RL, it should be a quality, long-lasting unit. The back of the connector should be labeled 1-8 on the bottom and 9-16 on the top. Well the cp2102 does NOT work and i already had a prolific 2303 so i tried it and was able to get 3 lines of raw data with winaldl and no other data at all.So im off to buy a ft232rl. attach a male OBD1 connector (for $15 plus shipping from, or i potentially have an overseas supplier that has a cable that can be used after some tweaking for a little under $9 shipped) and you have a fully functional and professional enough looking cable.Īnyways, tested at 8192 and it works flawlessly. put it in a radioshack project box for like $3(since this came with it's own USB cable) and you're out the door with a USB ALDL cable for just under $12. Now, assuming you can get ahold of a male ALDL connector or just use the bare pins for whatever reason, you'll have 2 or 4 quick solder joints to make and then you're done. then soldering into the solder cups of a DB9 connector? also a pain. item 4 GM OBD1 Scanner Adapter - Bluetooth to 12 pin ALDL direct. ever built a MAX232 on proto boards? they're a pain. item 3 16 pin GM ALDL OBD1 Scanner/Flash/Programming Cable USB to ALDL 3 -16 pin GM ALDL OBD1 Scanner/Flash/Programming Cable USB to ALDL.

So anyways, before this i was using Parallax 28030 units, which are serial->USB adapters, so i converted the 8192 stuff(basically TTL?) to serial using a MAX232 circuit, then converted serial to USB using the Parallax 28030.

Unlike the OBD-I connector, which was found under the hood of the vehicle, the OBD-II connector is located on the drivers side of the passenger compartment near the center console. also passes the tunerpro "test for cable" when unplugged from the car, not something i'm used to with my current cable. The OBD-II specification provides for a standartized hardware interface - the female 16-pin (2x8) J1962 connector.

just went and tested it on the MC, works great. :homer:Īnd when it comes to homebrew hardware, simple is always good. Let me know if that link doesn't work, but it's what i bought a few weeks ago.Īnyways, this convenient little piece of hardware allows you to hook up to a 8192 baud ECM with 2 wires.
